Several matters were considered at the recent meeting of Crook and Winster Parish Council. There is concern at the additional amount of traffic on the B5284, probably due to the signing at the roundabout at Plumgarths. There was no prior warning given that visitors would be advised to take this route to Bowness rather than continue on the main road. The matter of poor surfaces on several roads in the parishes continues to be a problem. Councillor Bland will enquire about the replacement of the bent sign post just past the Staveley road junction and it is also soon hoped to install a Speed Indicator Device on the B5284 at that end of Crook. It was noted that the planning request for six additional caravans/lodges at Pound Farm has been refused. ....

AN inspirational support worker has won our Gloucestershire Care Hero 2020 award. Gail Hadland, who works for Careful Care in Cirencester, received the most votes in our inaugural competition, narrowly beating Stephanie Burns and Angela Kavanagh as well as dozens of other nominees. As well as the trophy, Gail will receive a 43” Mitchell & Brown TV from Gardiner Haskins and a hamper worth £50 from Pound Farm Shop. Mother-of-three Gail was nominated for the award by her eldest daughter, Clare. Reacting to being announced the winner, Gail, who turns 60 next week, said: “I am overwhelmed by all the kindness. There are far far more carers out there who deserve it. ....
