For the first time since the pandemic began in March of 2020, the Steve Miklos Aquatic Center in Folsom is set to reopen Saturday for recreational swimming in time for the Memorial Day weekend.Recreational swim begins daily operations from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. May 29 through Sept. 6. Smiles. It feels good. It brings warmth to the heart, said Tom Hellmann, Recreation and Community Services manager with Folsom s Parks and Recreation Department. It s been really hard the past year not engaging with the community. The reopening offers several new upgrades since the pandemic shutdown. A colorful new interactive play structure replaces the previous 20-year-old structure. During the shutdown, operators also added new plaster and tile on the instructional and play pools, as well as new concrete decking.The new features and repairs were part of a planned renovation project that began in 2020 and were completed this spring, according to the city.Changes due to the pandemic:All aquatic c ....
