70 Bacolod cops test positive for coronavirus

SunStar File photo May 03, 2021 A TOTAL of 70 police officers of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) tested positive for the novel coronavirus, an official said Sunday, May 2, 2021. Police Lieutenant Ma. Liberty Indiape, spokesperson of BCPO, said from April 24 to May 1 surveillance testing conducted at BCPO headquarters, a total of 70 policemen tested positive for Sars-CoV-2, which causes the coronavirus disease (Covid-19). She said all of them were transferred to the city s quarantine facility and most of them were asymptomatic. She added that a contract tracing was already conducted, as well as the regular disinfection at BCPO headquarters and all police stations.

SunStar + April 29, 2021 ABOUT 53 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) committed by the police to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Bacolod City tested positive for the novel coronavirus. City Administrator Em Ang on Thursday, April 29, 2021, said the 53 PDLs from various police stations underwent swab testing last week before they were turned over by the police to the BJMP. Before their transfer, she said the PDLs were required to undergo 21-day mandatory isolation at the BJMP’s isolation facility. These PDLs were not mixed with the other PDLs at the BJMP. On Tuesday, an additional 11 police officers of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) also tested positive for the virus.

Police identified the suspect as Jesushua Pico, 26, of Barangay Bata. Police Lieutenant Ma. Liberty Indiape, spokesperson of Bacolod City Police Office, said Pico was arrested by arrest warrant for violation of Section 5, Article II of Republic Act (RA) 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. The arrest warrant was issued by Judge Lorenzo Balo of Regional Trial Court Branch 19 of Isulan, Sultan Kudarat, with no bail recommended.
