North Stonington Two women from Utica, N.Y., were charged Saturday with leaving a 4-year boy in a car alone while they purchased items inside the Amazing Intimate Essentials adult store on Route 2.
Monae J. Blake, 28, and Victoria L. Mortensen, 25, were each charged with leaving a child unsupervised in a place of public accommodation or motor vehicle. Blake was released on a $5,000 bond and Mortensen on a $7,500 bond. Both are slated to appear in New London Superior Court on May 11.
According to a state police report, a trooper was dispatched to the store at 10 p.m. after receiving a report of a child left alone in a car. Police said they found the boy inside the car while Mortensen and Blake were inside for about 15 minutes purchasing items. New London Police said a woman whose car was struck from behind on Bank Street on Sunday afternoon, then had her own car stolen at gunpoint when she got out to check the damage.
Police said that about 1 p.m., the woman was driving on Bank Street when her car was struck from behind by another car near the intersection of Summer Street.
“The victim reported as they got out of the vehicle to check for damage, a second person in the other vehicle got out with a gun, pointed it at her and stole her vehicle,” Capt. Matt Galante wrote in a release. “The suspect was described as a light skin male.”

A North Stonington man who was charged with robbing a Groton convenience store at gunpoint on Jan. 23 now faces robbery charges in North Stonington.
Corby Stedman, 26, of 48 Boombridge Road, was charged Thursday by state police with first-degree robbery, second-degree breach of peace and first-degree threatening in connection with a Jan. 24 robbery at a Citgo gas station in North Stonington.
Corrections department records show he is being held on a $280,000 bond at the Corrigan-Radgowski Correctional Center in Montville.
On Feb. 3, Groton Town Police charged Stedman with robbing the Henny Penny at 1270 Gold Star Highway in Groton just past midnight on Jan. 23. Police said in that incident, Stedman allegedly entered the business, brandished a firearm and demanded the store clerk open the cash register. He left with an undetermined amount of cash. Groton A Groton man has been charged in a shooting that took place earlier this month.
According to Groton City police, Kendal Fluker, 43, of 239 Benham Road, Apt. 18, Groton, was charged with first-degree criminal attempt to commit assault, unlawful discharge of a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm, first-degree reckless endangerment and first-degree criminal mischief. He was released on a $500,000 bond and has an April 14 court date in New London.
Police began investigating on March 18 after a complaint of a shooting on Benham Road in Groton City. The investigation revealed that this was an isolated incident and the victim was not injured. Investigation is continuing, no further arrests are anticipated, and no danger to the public at large is anticipated, police said in a news release.
