The newly elected president and first lady Jill Biden arrived at the U.S. Capitol to pay their respects to the late officer Sicknick, who died from injuries sustained while responding to pro-Trump rioters who stormed the building on January 6.
Sicknick s remains will lie in state at the very building he died defending, inside the Capitol s Rotunda. The distinguished honor is typically only bestowed upon former presidents, military officials and members of Congress.
The somber ceremony took place less than four weeks after the officer s death, beginning at 9:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday at the East Front of the Capitol as Sicknick s remains arrived in a hearse. ....

SOUTH RIVER–Carrying a Thin Blue Line flag and wearing running shoes, Florida pre-teen Zechariah Cartledge ran one mile to honor South River native, U.S. Capitol Police Officer Brian D. Sicknick.
Sicknick died from wounds received in the line of duty while defending the U.S. Capitol from an attack on Jan. 6. He returned to his division office and collapsed. He was taken to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 7, according to a prepared statement from the U.S. Capitol Police. ....

U.S. Representatives Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ-12) and Don Beyer (VA-8) introduced bipartisan legislation to honor United States Capitol Police Officer Brian D. Sicknick, who died from wounds received in the line of duty while defending the U.S. Capitol from attack on Jan. 6.
Beyer, who represented Sicknick in the House, and Watson Coleman, who represents much of Sicknick’s family, introduced a bipartisan House Resolution honoring Sicknick’s life and sacrifice as well as a bipartisan bill to posthumously award him a Congressional Gold Medal on Jan. 28. ....

Still reeling from the aftermath of the deadly insurrection at the seat of the U.S. government last week, U.S. Capitol Police have designated Yogananda Pittman as the law enforcement agency s acting chief.
She has been with the force since April 2001 and was named acting chief on Friday, according to the U. S. Capitol Police (USCP) website. That came two days after pro-Trump extremists faced off and eventually overwhelmed security forces at the U.S. Capitol complex. ....

A U.S. Capitol Police officer who was injured during the siege on the Capitol by pro-Trump extremists has died, bringing the total number of fatalities from the chaos that gripped Washington on Wednesday to five.
Brian Sicknick was a 42-year-old military veteran who had served in the Capitol Police for 12 years, Rep. Don Beyer, D-Va., said in a statement, adding that Sicknick was one of his constituents. ....
