Sindh police chief Mushtaq Ahmed Mahar has requested the provincial home department to declare police personnel frontline workers in the fight against Covid-19.
The letter, moved by the IG office to the additional chief secretary, reads, “It is submitted that since February 2020 Sindh Police is combating the challenge of Covid-19 on roads, isolation centres, sealed areas, graveyards, businesses and virtually every aspect of life.
“Being the frontline fighters, police personnel of Sindh are exposed to the risk of being infected with this deadly virus while controlling the traffic on roads, moving UTPs, dealing with protesters and mob situations, performing security duty with VIPs and VVIPs, guarding quarantine centers, performing the burial duties, ensuring sealing of affected areas and implementing the SOPs issued by the government.” ....

LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: Punjab Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar s aide Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Sunday said that miscreants armed with petrol bombs attacked the Nawankot Police Station, taking 12 policemen hostage and leaving six injured.
Sharing a statement by the Lahore police, she said that owing to the attack, in which the attackers used petrol bombs and bottles of acid, Rangers and police personnel were trapped inside the police station.
The miscreants held the deputy superintendent of police hostage at gunpoint, along with 11 other policemen, and drove them to their markaz (comprising a mosque and madrassah) nearby.
Aside from attacking the police station and kidnapping officials, the miscreants also stole an oil tanker carrying 50,000 litres of petrol, she said. Awan, confirming the same, said that any action taken was in self-defence and to rescue the police officers taken hostage. ....

The individual named Hanks Johnson, 52, was taken into custody without incident from Taylor Swift’s property
Police on Saturday arrested a man who broke into Taylor Swift’s apartment in New York, late at night.
According to a rep of New York Police Department, the individual named Hanks Johnson, 52, was taken into custody without incident from Swift’s Franklin St. property right before 11pm when he was trying to break into the Tribeca apartment.
The police had an open warrant out on the suspect at the time of arrest as he had missed a court date on April 6 regarding an earlier incident that occurred in October 2019. ....

Two policemen of the Balochistan police were arrested on Saturday for their alleged involvement in stealing vehicles in Karachi.
The arrests were made during a raid conducted in Steel Town. The suspects were identified as Asif and Abdul Qadir. They were policemen and posted in Lasbela district of Balochistan, police said, adding that during initial interrogation, they revealed that their gang lifted motorcycles and four-wheelers in Karachi and sold them in Balochistan.
The suspects also reportedly admitted that while transporting stolen vehicles from Karachi to Balochistan, they used to show their police cards if they were intercepted by other law enforcers. ....
