Print San Marcos-based nonprofit Wounded Warrior Homes was recognized for its efforts to help veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury get back on their feet, get jobs and become self-sufficient as they transition from military service to civilian life. The nonprofit received a proclamation Tuesday from San Diego County Supervisor Jim Desmond, Chairman Nathan Fletcher and the San Diego County Board of Supervisors, declaring Feb. 9 “Wounded Warrior Homes Day” in honor of the nonprofit’s transitional care and counseling program, LIFE – Living Independently For Ever. The program provides case management and individualized transition plans along with up to two years of transitional housing for veterans with PTSD or TBI. ....
VISTA A nonprofit that helps veterans has just received what could be called a very special home delivery in Vista. A cottage built by San Marcos High School students was delivered in two sections to Wounded Warrior Homes on Wednesday and Thursday nights, with the pieces lifted up and carefully slid atop a foundation Friday morning. After some finishing touches over the next few months, the cottage will provide temporary lodging to veterans graduating from the nonprofit’s program. “We just went from 13 bedrooms to 14, and the housing happened quickly,” Wounded Warrior Homes co-founder Steve Roseberry said as he watched the crew install the first section. ....
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Wounded Warrior Homes has launched their end of year giving campaign, Full Force 4 Vets. Full Force 4 Vets will provide 365 days of safe and secure housing, food, and comprehensive services for veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress (PTSD) or Traumatic Brain Injury. Wounded Warrior Homes was established to serve our heroes by providing them with a safe environment of support and supplemental services to aid them in transitioning back to civilian life. The nonprofit provides transitional housing and re-integrative services to post 9/11 veterans with Traumatic Brain Injury and/or PTSD. Due to the pandemic, the organization is asking for $50,000 in community support in order to continue its essential work. ....
More than 950 families received food, gifts, holiday cheer, and more at the 33rd annual United Way of San Diego County and San Diego & Imperial Counties Labor Council Food & Toy Distribution event last week. The donations were made possible through the Unions United safety net program, which uses a portion of the union dues collected from the councilâs over 200,000 members to assist people in need. âThis year, all families have been impacted in one way or another by the pandemic. But many who experience economic and food instability year-round have gone through even more difficulties this year than others,â said Nancy Sasaki, president and CEO of United Way of San Diego County. âOur United Way team and partners at the labor council long awaited this time-honored event to support families in our diverse communities who rely on extra support during the holiday season.â ....
