Parts of North Port received up to a foot of rain from Tropical Storm Elsa, as a deluge fell on the city for three hours on Tuesday night. Similar amounts of rain in areas to the north also are pushing more water south. In preparation, the National Weather Service issued a flood warning Thursday for southeastern Sarasota County. The warning will remain in effect until at least mid-afternoon Saturday. Water levels rose to 8.4 feet as of 10 a.m. on Friday at Myakka State Park. Those levels are expected to reach a crest of 9.2 feet by Sunday morning, flooding that s likely to drain down through North Port. ....

The full delegation made the meeting in Sarasota County Commission chambers: Sen. Joe Gruters, R-Sarasota; Rep. Michele Rayner, D-St. Petersburg; Rep. Fiona McFarland, R-Sarasota; Rep Tommy Gregory, R-Sarasota, and Rep. James Buchanan, R-Osprey. ....
