Team Salter takes Inaugural Combined Clubs Women s Keelboat Regatta crown by Jane Austin 25 Apr 09:12 UTC 24 April 2021 Skipper Kirsty Salter, Amelia Catt, Lizzi Rountree and Amy Potter, representing the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania, won the inaugural Combined Clubs Women s Keelboat Regatta in Hobart on Saturday. The unpredictable River Derwent kept Race Officer Ian Ross and the 48 female sailors on their toes with big wind shifts throughout the day, with the heaviest conditions kicking in from the south west at 15+ knots for the Gold and Silver Fleet finals. Salter was expected to do well in the event and didn t disappoint, starting with a second place in the first flight of the Yellow Fleet Qualifier. A frustrating sixth in the next flight put the team on notice but a second in the final flight saw them sneak through to the Gold Fleet final on 10 points. ....
Top sailors chase Australian SB20 crown by Jane Austin 5 Mar 05:38 UTC 6-8 March 2021 The scene is set for three days of intense racing in the 2021 Harcourts Hobart SB20 Australian Championship in Hobart. Sailors from New South Wales, South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania will contest the three-day event which will be sailed on the River Derwent this long weekend from the Derwent Sailing Squadron. The star-studded, 20-boat field includes some of Australia s best match-racing talent and several world champion sailors including David Chapman, Ben Lamb, Nick Rogers and Darren Jones. Last year s winner, Tasmanian Institute of Sport sailor Will Sargent, will be defending his title with Eddie Reid, Ed Broadby and Hugo Allison, but the young guns will have their work cut out for them as they vie to make it two in a row. ....
Tamar Marine Blockbuster Weekend Regatta 2021 - Day 1 by Jane Austin 27 Feb 18:56 UTC 27-28 February 2021 The 21st anniversary of the Tamar Marine Blockbuster Weekend has got off to a flying start at the Port Dalrymple Yacht Club on the Tamar River in northern Tasmania. The regatta has attracted a record number of entries with sailors making the event the largest off-the-beach regatta in Tasmania this season. PDYC Commodore, Greg Rowsell, is thrilled with the event so far. We are very pleased with the number of entries, 72 in total, and how the Classes are getting behind this event. There is a strong sense of camaraderie and participation across all of the Classes and a melting pot of experience with sailors keen to share their knowledge with the younger sailors, said Rowsell. ....
6ty SB20 Tasmanian Championship 2021 - Day 1 by Jane Austin 30 Jan 14:07 UTC 30-31 January 2021 Defending champion Chris Dare has sailed Ambition into an almost unbeatable position in the 6ty degrees SB20 Tasmanian Championship. Victorian Dare, sailing with his son Lachlan and international sailor Ben Lamb, won five from five races in the championship which is being sailed from Beauty Point for the first time. Championship Race Officer, Peter Sluce, from the Port Dalrymple Yacht Club which is hosting the event, had almost perfect conditions to sail the fleet with a consistent 15 to 18 knots north to north westerly breeze, the order of the day. ....
