Origin Energy, Port of Townsville ink hydrogen MoU Origin Energy has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Port of Townsville in Queensland to collaborate on the potential expansion of the port, developing a liquefaction facility, new berth and associated infrastructure for its liquid hydrogen export project, the company said on April 14. Origin is collaborating with Japan’s Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) on a 300-MW export project that would produce 36,500 metric tons/year of green liquid hydrogen using renewable energy and sustainable water. First exports are envisaged in the mid-2020s. “The three parties will now focus on work required to accommodate KHI’s semi-commercial scale liquid hydrogen carriers, currently under development, future project expansion opportunities, and potential for sharing of common infrastructure with other Port of Townsville users,” Origin said. ....

The public update will be held online on Thursday, 11 March 2021 from 2.30pm to 4pm. The ITAC members have diverse technical backgrounds and all are recognized in their fields of expertise. Townsville dredging project starts in May March 5, 2021, by Zlatan Hrvacevic In their first community newsletter for 2021, the Port of Townsville gave a brief update on some of the largest projects in the port’s history. “The Channel Upgrade Project is well advanced with construction of the rock wall nearing completion and dredging to start in May this year,” said Ranee Crosby, CEO of Port of Townsville Limited. “It is great to see the Port of Townsville’s $232 million Channel Upgrade project continuing to deliver jobs for the region,” added Crosby. “The Channel Upgrade will help future-proof the port and the diverse range of industries that rely on it including mining, agriculture, construction, energy, defence, retail and cruise.” ....
