Former U18 ‘AAA’ Kenora Thistles alternate captain Jace Dittaro will be suiting up for the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s Portage Terriers when the puck drops on the 2021/2022 season.
The 18-year-old defender only spent one season with the Thistles where he made an appearance in each of the five games the club played in the SIJHL against the Fort Frances Lakers.
As a 6’5″ right-shot puck-moving defender, Thistles head coach Scott Parsons tells us that Dittaro was everything a coach could want.
“Jace ate up a lot of minutes in the games that we played,” says Parsons, “He was a trusted presence on the penalty kill as well as quarterbacking the power play. Always had intense focus when given instructions.” ....

A new fund established at the Community Foundation of Portage & District in memory of Geno Romanow, long time Equipment Manager of the Portage Terriers, is being announced today to mark the 1-year anniversary of his passing on May 8th. And although not a lot of hockey has
been played over the past year due to the pandemic, the loss of Geno Romanow is still felt deeply by many.
Geno Romanow fell in love with hockey and the Portage Terriers during the 1973/74 Centennial Cup Championship season. The following year, he joined the Portage Terriers Junior A Board and the Junior B Terriers, where he quickly picked up the skills of being an equipment manager. Geno could never remember exactly what year he moved up to the Junior A’s. For 40+ seasons he crafted his skill of skate sharpening, knowledge of all hockey equipment and became a friend to every ....

Graduating Thistle Profile: Jace Dittaro

An important member of the U18 ‘AAA’ Kenora Thistles, Jace Dittaro was the other tower from Fort Frances (alongside Declan Webb).
The 18-year-old was arguably the best player on the ice every time his shift came around both in 2019/2020 as an ‘AP’ call-up for Manitoba U18 ‘AAA’ Hockey League games and in 2020/2021 playing Junior ‘A’ opposition in the SIJHL.
As a 6’5″ right-shot puck-moving defender, Thistles head coach Scott Parsons tells us that Dittaro was everything a coach could want.
