PORTLAND, Maine The University of Southern Maine (USM) is committed to the goal of being a carbon-neutral campus by the year 2040.
Next month, it will break ground on its first residence hall for the Portland Campus, and it will be built to passive house standards. That means it will energy-efficient, partly solar-powered, and will produce only half the carbon of a regular dorm. It will feature sustainable landscaping, recycling, and waste minimization. ....

The Davistown Museum is a tool, art, and regional history museum with two physical locations in Maine and a website, rich with resources. Its main building is in Liberty, while its office and a sculpture garden are in Hulls Cove (Bar Harbor). The primary mission of the museum is the recovery, display, and interpretation of hand tools used in Maine and New England s maritime culture. It serves as an important clearinghouse for information on the history of hand tools and their roles in the early industries of Maine and New England and offers an extensive exhibit of hand tools in Liberty and online. Threat of snow and ice forces school closures around Oregon, Washington

Despite most Portland-area students attending school from home, several school districts have announced closures that impact limited in-person learning and other services. What follows is a list of closure announcements that OPB is aware of.
Gresham-Barlow School District All after-school activities are canceled Thursday evening through the weekend.
Portland Public Schools All PPS buildings closed Thursday. All school-based activities are canceled including Limited In-Person Instruction (LIPI), child care and athletics.
Reynolds School District Online distance learning continues. Thursday and Friday, all school-based activities including meal distribution, supplies pickups, athletics, etc. are canceled.
