Bates is considering playing at Michigan State, Memphis, Miami, Baylor or Oregon or starting out with the NBA s G League, Australia s NBL or Overtime Elite. The talented forward has long been considered the top prospect in his class and possibly the top American prospect period. ESPN recently listed him as its No. 1 preps player. He d traded the spot with Chet Holmgren, whom Bates battled while playing the inaugural season for his father Ypsi Prep program. Bates, a five-star Michigan State basketball commit, and Ypsilanti Prep Academy play Mikey Williams, a five-star sophomore with dozens of Division I offers, and Lake Norman (North Carolina) on Saturday in a clash between two of the best young scorers in the country. The matchup is part of the latest Battle Basketball Showcase, a two-game event scheduled for Saturday at Bob Jones University in South Carolina. Williams is ranked the No. 1 combo guard in his class by both ESPN and 247Sports. His Lake Norman team had a seven-game winning streak snapped with its loss in conference play Tuesday to United Faith Christian. The Storm changed coaches after 8-2 start and have been led since mid-January by Patrick McCarthy on an interim basis. ....
On the day Ypsilanti Prep Academy won its first game without Emoni Bates, a marquee matchup involving the new Michigan-based basketball team became publicized. Bates, a five-star Michigan State basketball commit, and Mikey Williams, an undecided five-star sophomore, could share the floor when Ypsi Prep meets Lake Norman Christian (North Carolina) on Feb. 6. Ypsi Prep is hoping Bates can play after he was injured in a game vs. Elevation Prep in Ohio last week. The Feb. 6 matchup, broadcast on Fox Sports platforms, is part of the Battle Basketball Showcase, the latest two-game event planned for limited public attendance at Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina. Dorman High School, repeat state champions, will play another local team at the event, but those details are not yet available. Ypsi Prep and Bates headlined the last Battle Showcase Jan. 9 in Fort Worth, Texas a nationally televised game vs. Air Nado and Michigan basketball recuirt Frankie ....
