THE number of new business in Queensland rose last year with sole traders becoming an increasingly important part of the job market during a period marked by the coronavirus lockdown. Xero Boss Insights 2021 report, authored by demographer Bernard Salt, found that across Australia there was a net increase of about 47,000 new business in Australia who gained an ABN number. According to the report, Queensland accounted for 7358 new businesses with Greater Brisbane making up about 4900 or a 2.4 per cent rise in the 12 months ending in June last year. Over that period there were 1590 new business registered on the Gold Coast and 876 added on the Sunshine Coast. ....

The Ford Ranger was taken from a Boronia Dr address between 7.30pm on Sunday and the early hours of Monday morning, with police sighting the vehicle as it was driving towards Redbank near Ipswich. Warwick Police officer-in-charge Jamie Deacon said police deployed spikes to stop the 18-year-old, but he allegedly continued with one deflated tyre for a short distance before abandoning the car. The 18-year-old was taken into custody a short while later. The St George resident was charged with burglary, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, receiving tainted property, and driving while unlicensed. ....

Date Time Police lay assault charges at South Brisbane Police have charged a 33-year-old man following an assault in South Brisbane during the early hours of this morning. Around 1am it will be alleged the man and his friends became involved in a physical altercation with another group on Grey Street. During the altercation a 21-year-old man sustained minor stab wounds to his chest and right arm. The group fled and were arrested on the Victoria Bridge a short time later. The Boronia Heights man was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital where he was treated for two lacerations to the arm and chest. ....
