Phoenixville School District announces Wall of Fame honorees


If the weather is inclement then the ceremony will be moved inside to the high school auditorium.
Due to COVID-19 last year and the shutdown of all schools in Pennsylvania on March 13, 2020, the Wall of Fame ceremony was not held. This year the Wall of Fame Committee decided to combine the 2020 and 2021 ceremonies to honor all three inductees.

2020 Inductees: John J. Coll Jr. and Thomas E. Mitchell (Posthumously)
Mr. John J. Coll Jr. was born and raised in Phoenixville PA. A 1971 graduate of St. Pius X High School. He continued his undergraduate education at Mount Saint Mary’s University graduating in 1975 with a BA in Political Science. He then graduated from George Mason University with a Juris Doctor Degree in 1980. He continued on to Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law and graduated in 1987 with a Masters of Laws in Taxation. ....

PHOENIXVILLE, PA The Phoenixville Area School District will induct three new members to its Wall of Fame on Monday evening John J. Coll Jr., a dedicated coach and volunteer, Big Tom Thomas E. Mitchell who was sometimes Santa Claus, and sports journalist Barry Irvin Sankey.
The induction event happens on Monday, May 3 at 7 p.m. outside the Phoenixville Area High School, 1200 Gay Street. If the weather is inclement then the ceremony will be moved inside to the high school auditorium, the school district said. The event is sponsored by the PASD Wall of Fame Committee. ....

Today In Johnson City History: Dec. 28


Dec. 28, 1811: William Hyter Young was born. He was a fifth-generation descendant from the Revolutionary War Soldier Robert Young. As of 1969, Robert Young’s log cabin home was standing. “Located on what was formerly the Soldiers Home, in Johnson City’s western edge, this is most likely the oldest cabin standing today, of a Revolutionary War Veteran.” Mr. Young and his family lived at 1117 Cedar St., and it was in this house that First Christian Church was organized and initially met in 1871.
Dec. 28, 1893: The Comet reported its offices had “moved into the Hoss & Hodge building on Market street near Roan street.” ....
