In a split 2-2 vote, the supervisors allowed a prior Planning Commission decision to deny the cannabis project stand. Fifth District Supervisor Debbie Arnold, whose family owns the winery neighboring the saloon, recused herself from the vote to avoid the appearance of a conflict of interest. The April 6 hearing drew dozens of public comments with many expressing support for the project and the Beanway family, which ran the saloon for decades, and others opposing it due to concerns about water supply, security, and neighborhood compatibility. ....
Update posted March 8, 5 p.m.: –The California Highway Patrol has released updated information about the motorcycle crash that occurred near Pozo Sunday afternoon. CHP has identified the deceased as 38-year-old Fredrick Witherspoon of Paso Robles. On Sunday at approximately 2:50 p.m., Witherspoon was astride his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, traveling westbound Pozo Road east of River Road at a reportedly high rate of speed. As he entered a right curve he failed to properly negotiate the curve in the roadway. He drove onto the south shoulder and continued in a westerly direction, while on the shoulder. He was still astride the motorcycle as it collided with a t-post and barbed wire fence. Witherspoon then continued through the barbed wire fence where he and the motorcycle collided with a dirt pasture, sliding in a westerly direction for approximately 75 feet before coming to rest. ....

According to CAL FIRE SLO, emergency crews responded to reports of a single motorcycle crash near the intersection of W Pozo Rd. and Hi Mountain Lookout Rd. around 3 p.m. The driver slid out and lost control just down the road from the Pozo Saloon, according to a CAL FIRE SLO report. Officials said the reporting party attempted CPR on the motorcyclist before paramedics arrived on scene. ....
