Nelson’s non-profit community groups can now apply for a grant to support their work for up to three years from Nelson City Council’s Community Investment Fund.
This year, the fund has $240,000 available for three-year strategic grants to support non-profit community organisations to deliver programmes and activities with a social development focus and that contribute to Council’s community outcomes. Nelson’s non-profit community groups can now apply
for a grant to support their work for up to three years from
Nelson City Council’s Community Investment
Fund.
This year, the fund has $240,000 available for
three-year strategic grants to support non-profit community
organisations to deliver programmes and activities with a
social development focus and that contribute to Council’s
community outcomes. Grants of up to $30,000 a year for three
years are available.
Organisations applying for the
grants must have a focus on supporting and empowering
vulnerable people and communities, and in particular
projects that address:

Family-friendly Maitai Recreation Hub To Be Developed

Families, walkers, runners and cyclists will have a
new place to visit or set off from on their adventures, as a
location for the Maitai Recreation Hub in the Maitai Valley
is confirmed at Waahi Taakaro Golf Course.
Concept
designs for the new hub are now underway after Council
confirmed the site for the new hub in a Community and
Recreation Committee meeting on Thursday 22 April.
The
hub will build upon the existing facilities at the golf
course, and the impact on the golf playing area will be
minimal.

Annual International Kai Festival Cancelled For 2021

Whakatū Marae and Founders Heritage Park have made the
difficult decision to cancel this year’s International Kai
Festival.
Held annually on Waitangi Day, 6 February,
this year’s event was planned to take place at Whakatū
Marae and neighbouring Founders Heritage
Park.
However, Whakatū Marae Kaiwhakahaere Kim
Ngawhika said the past year had been incredibly challenging,
and with the threat of COVID-19 still very real, it was
imperative whānau wellbeing came first.

Nelson's Kai Festival taken off the menu for 2021

Nelson s annual International Kai Festival will not go ahead in 2021 due to ongoing concerns about the threat of Covid-19.
In a statement released on Thursday, event organisers from Whakatū Marae and Founders Heritage Park made the joint decision to cancel the festival.
The festival which was scheduled to be held on Waitangi Day, February 6, normally attracts hundreds of visitors for its celebration of traditional Maori culture and international food.
Whakatū Marae kaiwhakahaere (administrator) Kim Ngawhika said the decision had been made following an “incredibly challenging” 2020, and with the ongoing threat of Covid-19 in mind. ....
