Tennessee workers at military research facility continue strike for health and safety
Approximately 670 skilled workers at the Arnold Engineering and Development Complex (AEDC) in Tullahoma, Tennessee, voted overwhelmingly on Friday to reject a new contract proposal, choosing instead to continue a strike that began on July 2. The deal had been reached between the Air Engineering Metal Trades Council (AEMTC) union and the workers’ employers, National Aerospace Solutions, LLC (NAS) and Chugach Federal Solutions Inc., which are contractors for the AEDC.

The AEDC is a research facility operated by the US Air Force’s Material Command, which is headquartered at Arnold Air Force Base in Tullahoma, but composed of 10 facilities spread across the country. ON STRIKE: Metal trades workers protest labor practices of NAS, Chugach

At 1 p.m. today, members of the Air Engineering Metal Trades Council (AEMTC) officially went on strike at Arnold Air Force Base.
Negotiations between NAS, Chugach and AEMTC did not yield a new collective bargaining agreement before the previous agreement between NAS and AEMTC members expired at 11 p.m. Wednesday, June 30. AEMTC members did not immediately go on strike, however. They chose Friday afternoon to make their move.
A small group of picketers gathered outside Gate 2 of Arnold Air Force Base, which was pre-designated by AEDC Commander Col. Jeffrey Geraghty as the official protest spot earlier this week. ....

Arnold AFB prepares for possible labor dispute


In preparation for a possible labor dispute, Col. Jeffrey T. Geraghty, commander of the Arnold Engineering Development Complex headquartered at Arnold Air Force Base, has directed the reconfiguration of gates and installation of barriers.
The Air Engineering Metal Trades Council (AEMTC) and the National Aerospace Solutions, LLC (NAS) are negotiating their collective bargaining agreement, which is set to expire at 11 p.m. today. If an agreement is not reached, NAS bargaining unit employees may strike and picket at the base entrance.
The AEMTC represents more than 600 employees from 11 trade unions, and NAS is the test, operations and sustainment contractor at Arnold AFB. ....
