MIDTOWN, GA A famous red-nosed reindeer and his red-suited, jolly boss have arrived in Midtown Atlanta.
The original reindeer puppet and Santa from the 1964 stop-motion children s feature Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer landed in Midtown s Center for Puppetry Arts on Tuesday, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. An anonymous donor bought the two puppet figures for $368,000 at an auction Nov. 13 and gave them to the center on semi-permanent loan.
After production of the Christmas classic, the filmmakers handed out the poseable figures Rudolph, Santa, Hermey the elf, Sam the Snowman, Bumble, Clarice (Rudolph s crush) and others as souvenirs, the AJC reported. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution brings word that both Rudolph and Santa from the special are now on semi-permanent loan to the Center for Puppetry Arts in the Georgia Capital, a museum showcasing all things puppets. Executive director of the Center for Puppetry Arts Beth Schiavo revealed that an anonymous donor purchased the puppets at auction and has gifted them to the museum.
According to the outlet after production concluded on the special, the various puppets used were given away as souvenirs to crew members and family, separating them around the country and resulting in them being in varying conditions, if they survived at all. The Rudolph and Santa puppet appeared on Antiques Road Show in 2006 where they were valued between $8,000 and $10,000. Breman Museum
The William Breman Jewish Heritage Museum in Midtown, in collaboration with the LumiÃ¨re, has extended âA Jazz Memoir,â the virtual exhibition of photographer Herb Snitzerâs photos of Americaâs jazz scene.
Originally scheduled to close at the end of December, the exhibition will now run through March 31. It is the first of what the Breman plans to offer in a series of exhibitions and online experiences.
Born in 1932, Snitzer is a Jewish photographer known especially for his images of jazz musicians. He graduated from the Philadelphia College of Art in 1957 and moved to New York, where he quickly emerged as one of the top young photojournalists. ....
