(Brandon Victor / Noozhawk photo) By Brandon Victor, Noozhawk Contributing Writer May 10, 2021 | 9:00 p.m. Many coaches at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table’s Press Luncheon were eager to highlight the dedication of their student-athletes this season especially those who are playing multiple sports at the same time. “I see first hand the things these kids have to go through everyday, and it really is a testament to the athletes and the sacrifices that they’re making for their teams,” said Dos Pueblos softball coach Mike Gerken. “I hope all coaches recognize the sacrifices that all of your two-sport athletes are going through right now.” ....

JOHN FISHER ATHLETICS The New England Small College Athletic Conference finally announced a decision last week to move forward with the spring season if at least six members are able to play an abbreviated regional schedule. That means Middlebury, Tufts, Amherst and others likely will have a chance to prove themselves among the top Division III women’s lacrosse teams this season when they start up in mid-April, but in the meantime, they remain in the rankings as projected contenders. After all, the conference left it up to individual universities to make decisions about whether or not they will play. ....
Mon Mar 8 2021 | Laurel Pfahler | College PHOTO BY KEITH LUCAS The majority of teams that were ranked in that Top 20 haven’t started because of delays in scheduling related to the COVID-19 pandemic; however, with cases dropping in many areas of the country, spring sports are starting to kick into gear. Middlebury, the 2019 national champion, remains the top team while the NESCAC awaits word on whether its season will go on, but of the schools already playing games, Salisbury is off to the most notable start. The Sea Gulls jumped up three spots after opening with a trio of victories. No teams in the top 20 have lost any games yet, and the NESCAC isn’t the only conference still up in the air. The SUNYAC is still in the planning process, and schedules for others such as the Centennial Conference and Liberty League have not yet been announced. ....
