By this time in history, it can be safely assumed that the Pictish identity in the region of Scotland was hazy at best, and mostly phased out, assuming somewhat of a mythical role. The rapid progress of 
Gaelicization was underway, meaning that the  Gaelic language  quickly overshadowed and replaced the old  Pictish language , which was much like the Brythonic language of old.
