Assembly Elections: Amid Tight Security, Counting of Votes Underway In Four States, One UT


Counting of votes for the Assembly elections in four states and one Union Territory began at 8 am today.
Ballots cast by voters in West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry will be counted today to ascertain who will form the next government in these states and UT.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) will conduct the vote counting exercise amid tight security and in the backdrop of the pandemic sweeping across the country.
In order to ensure safety of all ECI officials, the poll body has made it mandatory for all candidates and their agents to show a negative RT-PCR test report or a vaccination certificate before they enter counting centres. ....

Assembly elections: Counting of votes in TN and Puducherry to begin soon


A total of 3,998 candidates are fighting it out to enter the 234-member Tamil Nadu assembly.
As per the Election Commission of India, 72.81 per cent of the 6.29 crore voters have cast their votes in the poll.
Apart from the Assembly election results, the bypoll results for the Kanniyakumari Lok Sabha constituency will also be known on Sunday.
The bypoll was fought mainly between former Union Minister and BJP s Pon Radhakrishnan and Congress candidate Vijay Vasanth, son of late MP H. Vasanth Kumar.
The assembly poll results will be crucial for the ruling AIADMK government led by Chief Minister K. Palaniswami and the principal opposition party DMK led by M.K. Stalin. ....

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: All arrangements are in place for counting of votes on Sunday in tune with Covid-19 guidelines for Assembly polls held on April 6 in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry as political parties await results anxiously.
In Kerala, as many as 957 candidates, including Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, 11 of his cabinet colleagues, Leader of Opposition Ramesh Chennithala, Senior Congress leader Oommen Chandy, BJP state chief K Surendran, Metroman E Sreedharan, and former Union minister, K J Alphons among others were in fray for the 140 assembly seats.
Though all the exit polls and pre poll surveys had predicted a massive win for the ruling front, the opposition UDF has not given up hope. ....

Chennai, May 1 : The electoral fate of 3,998 candidates who fought in the April 6 Tamil Nadu assembly polls will be known on Sunday, the May 2.
