ALBANY Two weeks after a law was enacted to require telecom companies to offer discount broadband plans to low-income New Yorkers, industry groups went to federal court Friday in an effort to block the legislation.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo has hailed the law as a trailblazing effort to make broadband services affordable for impoverished families.
By June 15, telecom companies doing business in New York must offer income-eligible households basic high-speed internet service for $15 per month. The discount rate for very high speed service is set at $20 per month.
Now, consumers getting the basic broadband are charged at least $50 a month on average in New York. ....

NYS, Holtec And Stakeholders Reach Agreement To Decommission Indian Point

The owner of the Indian Point nuclear power plant, the prospective owner and several stakeholders, including New York state, have reached an agreement regarding the decommissioning of the Westchester County-based plant. This comes as the plant permanently shuts down by the end of the month. 
The joint proposal has been submitted to the New York state Public Service Commission for approval and is available for public comment. The provisional agreement was negotiated by New York state, current Indian Point owner Entergy, Holtec International, Westchester County, the local school district and local governments, Riverkeeper and the Public Utility Law Project. If approved by the PSC, the agreement would transfer ownership of the nuclear power facility to Holtec, which would be responsible for the decommissioning and remediation of the facility and site.
