Canton sets September public forum for input on village marijuana dispensaries

CANTON — The village at the heart of the St. Lawrence County seat wants to hear from its constituents about recreational marijuana dispensaries under the state’s Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act. The village Board of Trustees during its Wednesday meeting scheduled a public forum to gauge Canton’s interest in permitting local marijuana retailers. “I don’t really want to talk about opting out — or anything — until we’ve heard from the community,” Trustee Carol S. Pynchon said. The public hearing is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, at the municipal building, 60 Main St. A virtual participation option is also planned. Trustees cited probable August vacation plans among community members in their decision to push the hearing to September.

New York State Legalizes the Recreational Use of Marijuana | Bond Schoeneck & King PLLC

To embed, copy and paste the code into your website or blog: New York State officially passed and signed into law a bill that legalizes the production, distribution, and adult-use of cannabis in the state (S.854A/A.1248A).  The new legislation, known as the Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act (the Act), allows those who are at least 21-years of age to use, smoke, ingest or consume cannabis products. It also allows those 21 and over to possess up to three ounces of cannabis or 24 grams of concentrated cannabis without penalty.  This memo is intended to highlight key considerations for clients interested in joining the adult-use cannabis industry. Additional regulations are expected with respect to the Act, although nothing has been published to date.
