Access to Keelboat Park, near the riverboat landing will be maintained from Main Avenue. Starting Monday, July 12, access will only be by River Road from the south at Main Avenue near the Memorial Bridge. Head north on River Road to the entrance of the parking lot of Lewis and Clark. No access from the north on River Road from Burnt Boat Drive. The closure will be in place until further notice. So what s going to be so darn problematic on Thursday 7/15? ....

Last month, a Tennessee boy got caught under a Missouri coaster and was seriously injured. And in early June a woman died from internal bleeding after sustaining an injury while riding a roller coaster in Indiana. It was ruled an accident. The likelihood of dying on a roller coaster is pretty low, with odds at roughly one in 750 million, according to the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions. ....

UPDATE Police have identified the person killed in the accident on the Raging River ride at Adventureland. KRCG reports the guest was 11-year old Michael Jaramillo. Adventureland staff joined police and fire medics to help the six confirmed injured in the accident. One juvenile guest remains in critical condition following the accident. ORIGINAL: The always popular summer activity of going on rides on Adventureland in Altoona turned dealy this weekend. The amusement park confirmed on its Facebook page one patron has died and several others were hurt after an accident occurred in the Raging River attraction on Saturday, July 3.
