LAKE COUNTY, Ore. The Bootleg Fire is now estimated at 298,662 acres and is 22% contained. Crews battling the fire say the east side of the fire continues to be problematic. Additional evacuation levels have been implemented in Lake County due to increased activity on the Bootleg Fire. There is a Level 2 “Be Set” notice for Forest Service Road 29 and Hwy 31 Junction to the top of Government Harvey Pass, east to Slide Lake Trailhead, and back north to Hwy 31. This includes the Monument Rock Area. There are now Level 1 “Be Ready” evacuations for Picture Rock Pass, the Ana Subdivision, the communities of Summer Lake and Paisley, south of Paisley along Clover Flat Road to Moss Pass. ....
LA PINE â Fire crews continued to slow the Darlene Fire east of La Pine and hope to have it significantly contained within the coming days, according to Joel Basch, a spokesperson for the Deschutes National Forest who was at the fire Friday afternoon. The 686-acre fire was 5% contained Friday, fire officials said. Hand crews worked to put out hot spots along the perimeter of the fire, Basch said. Itâs a long process, but containment levels will rise quickly as the process continues in the coming days, he said. âWeâre in the mop-up stages,â he said. The National Weather Service dropped a Red Flag warning Thursday night initially issued Wednesday morning due to gusty winds and low relative humidity. Winds slowed and humidity rose Friday, which helped decrease fire behavior. ....
La Pine community steps up: Lions Club spends week feeding Darlene Fire evacuees Donations from the community make it happen; others in town also offer assistance LA PINE, Ore. (KTVZ) What started as immediate assistance has turned into a saving grace for the La Pine community this week. The La Pine Lions Club rushed to aid evacuees when the Darlene Fire broke out on Tuesday. Since then, they ve managed to hand out three meals a day for those who need it. Members say at one point, they were feeding up to 70 people per meal. Their trailer spent the week at a temporary evacuation shelter at La Pine Middle School all the food is donated. Community members have been donating food and money so the lions club can continue cooking and they prepare all the meals themselves. ....
