July 9, 2021 ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will soon get an opportunity in a Senate panel to articulate its stand on the multitude of controversial amendments in the Elections Act recently approved by the National Assembly. The opposition parties too have got their act together and will give their response to the far-reaching changes in the poll law in the standing committee. Three special invitees have also been requested to attend a meeting of the Senate committee on parliamentary affairs to be held on July 12. The committee will, for the first time, deliberate upon the massive amendments in the Elections Act that had been unanimously passed in 2017 during the tenure of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) government. ....

ANF foils two bids to smuggle drugs July 8, 2021 The Anti-Narcotics Force claimed to have foiled two bids to smuggle drugs on Wednesday. According to an ANF spokesperson, the force foiled a bid to smuggle heroin from Karachi to the United Kingdom. An ANF Clifton police conducted a raid on a tip-off at a courier company’s office and seized 1,500 grams of high quality heroin from a parcel booked for the UK. A case has been registered while an investigation is underway. Separately, an ANF Hyderabad team, acting on a tip-off, intercepted car and seized 33 kilograms of high quality hashish and arrested two suspects, namely Faiz Muhammad and Abdul Rasheed. ....
