Blood bikers recognised for hard work as Wrexham team receives new vehicle

WREXHAM volunteers were delighted to receive recognition of their hard work throughout the covid-19 pandamic. Blood Bikes Wales has received the Queen s Award for Voluntary Service for its work since the start of the crisis. Its riders carry all kinds of medical supplies including milk for premature babies, blood, plasma, medicine, equipment and more to hospitals and other areas of need. Chris Jones, area committee representative for Blood Bikes Wales Wrexham branch, said: Our workload went up by about 300 per cent during the pandemic. We have 90 volunteers in Wrexham and currently we have 45 riders. On average at the moment we do four to five jobs a day, but in the peak we were doing up to 32.

Coastal Bloodbike group accepts donation of new motorcycle

From humble beginnings at a private address in Prestatyn one year ago, Wrexham s Coastal Bloodbikes group now has a permanent base at Glan Clwyd Hospital, and a new motorcycle. Chris Jones, Bloodbikes NE area rep said: “Thanks to a very generous considerable donation to Blood Bikes Wales from its member David Dean, the coastal group, has replaced the founding Suzuki bike with a new BMW motorcycle which offers more comfort, better weather protection and less maintenance.” Blood Bikes Wales is a 100 per cent volunteer charity, providing free courier service for the NHS, delivering Blood samples, plasma, donated human milk, documents and anything else that will fit on a motorcycle, all over Wales.

Blood delivery service sets up new home at Glan Clwyd Hospital

A VITAL blood transportation charity has set up a permanent home at Glan Clwyd Hospital. Blood Bikes Wales (BBW), made up of volunteer motorcyclists who aid the NHS with out-of-hours blood transportation, decided to establish a second base in North Wales amid increased demand on health services. Its deliveries include blood, samples, plasma, donated human milk, documents and any other items that fit onto a motorbike and need to be delivered for Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The new base includes one Suzuki bike and six riders and is expected to result in significantly improved time and fuel efficiency for the delivery service, which previously had one base in Wrexham.
