570 cases of illegal liquor seized, 1 held | Ludhiana News

Representative Image LUDHIANA: Continuing with its drive under the Red Rose Operation, the excise department along with the Ludhiana police unearthed an illegal and fake liquor racket operating from the premises of Gemco Exports situated at GT Road, Jugiana. In the operation led by assistant commissioner, excise, Rajesh Aery and ACP (headquarters), Ludhiana, Jang Bahadur Sharma, one person has been arrested and efforts were being made to nab the other accused, who are suspected to be involved in similar offences in the past too. A spokesperson of the excise department said 570 cases of illegal and fake liquor with labels of Cash Whisky and Royal Tiger (without manufacturing unit’s name) and some unlabelled spirits were stored on the premises. The entire haul was without holograms and there were some empty cardboard boxes too.

Jatinder Nagpal, 40, a resident of Basant Avenue, said in his police complaint, “Like every day, I reached my shop around 10am to open it. I was carrying a bag that contained about Rs 2 lakh. I kept the bag down to unlock the shop. At that time, two men on a motorcycle stopped near me. They asked me if a man named Billa worked there. When I told the duo I did not know him, one of them threw chilli powder into my eyes and escaped with the cash bag.”

19 dead; 1,257 test positive in Ludhiana

Tribune News Service Ludhiana, May 6 As many as 1,257 persons from the district tested positive for Covid, while 19 lost their lives to the disease today. Total positive cases reached 62,578, while the death toll has mounted to 1,489. There were 11,022 active patients in the district on Thursday. Fifteen men and four women lost their lives. The deceased belong to Basant Avenue, Haibowal Kalan, Dugri, Dharor village, Chandigarh Road, Dholewal, Kanganwal, Guru Angad Dev Colony, Mullanpur, Phullanwal, Gill village, Dhatta, near Dehlon, Rahon Road, Guru Ram Das Colony, Tagore Nagar, Basant Avenue and Sarabha Nagar. A total of 10,380 samples were collected from the district and report of 421 is pending.

The alleged fraudster posed as an Army man. In his complaint to the police, Dharuvdeep Singh of the Basant Avenue area said he made a deal to buy iPhone 11, which was listed for sale on an online market platform for Rs42,500. He said after finally bargaining with the seller, who identified himself as Sanjay Singh, an Army personnel through phone call and social media messages, the deal was finalised for Rs39,000. He said he sought documentation regarding his identity and of the mobile phone from him. As he requested some advance payment he transferred an amount of Rs5,000 and then Rs1,000 in his account.

Record 995 Covid positive; 8 die | Ludhiana News

Ludhiana: The district recorded its highest single-day Covid-19 case count of 995 on Friday. A day before, 880 residents the second highest tally were confirmed to have contracted the disease. As per the health department bulletin, 13 Covid deaths were reported on the day. Of them, eight were residents of Ludhiana and one each of Barnala, Jalandhar, Faridkot, Delhi and Jharkhand. The district casualties included a 56-year-old diabetic man of Mohan Singh Nagar, a 66-year-old diabetic man of Basti Jodhewal, a 78-year-old diabetic woman of Madhuvan Enclave, a 61-year-old man of Basant Avenue, Dugri, with hypertension, a 51-year-old man of Mundiyan Kalan, a 62-year-old man of Ludhiana with hypertension and coronary artery disease, a 65-year-old woman of Khanna with hypertension, and a 36-year-old diabetic man of Hambhara village.
