Jan. 21 Anxious to know when they can be vaccinated against COVID-19, droves of Whatcom County residents are calling health care providers jamming their phone lines for hours, even crashing them.
Family Care Network has reported fielding thousands of inquiries.
PeaceHealth said it is experiencing a 4,000% increase in daily queries from the community.
The Whatcom County Health Department has reported getting an ever increasing number of calls, as has Unity Care NW.
We are struggling to keep up with phone inquiries about vaccine availability while also answering calls from patients who are trying to access needed medical care, said Michele Anderson, spokesperson for Family Care Network, which is the primary care provider for nearly 100,000 patients in Whatcom an ....

Dec. 28 Whatcom County has 35 new confirmed COVID-19 cases the past two days, according to the Washington State Department of Health on Monday, Dec. 28, an no new deaths were reported over the weekend.
The two-day total the state no longer updates the COVID-19 dashboard on Sundays means that Whatcom County averaged 22.9 new COVID cases reported per day over the past seven days.
That marked the lowest weekly average the county has seen in more than a month since it averaged 21.3 cases per day reported between Nov. 16 and 22. Since then, Whatcom has seen its rolling seven-day average top out at 46.0 on Nov. 27 and surpass 40 cases per day nine times. ....

One death and 26 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Whatcom County, according to the Washington State Department of Health Wednesday, Dec. 9.
Whatcom County now has seen 2,763 confirmed cases and 54 related deaths during the pandemic, according to state data as of 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8. That means that 2% of the Whatcom residents who have tested positive for COVID during the pandemic have died.
The state Department of Health data Wednesday also showed Whatcom County has had 159 hospitalizations (no change from Tuesday’s report). ....
