January 24, 2021 Beloit parents, teachers and coaches speak out in support of allowing the return of athletics and co-curricular activities. The Beloit School Board held a special Saturday public hearing to set aside three hours to hear the community’s thoughts on the issue. Participants spoke about the value of athletics to a student’s development and health, and they pointed to the success of other districts who allowed winter sports. On Tuesday, the board will vote on the district’s proposal for allowing these on-site activities, even though students will remain in virtual learning through at least the end of the third term. ....
Several Rock County school district staffs have received COVID-19 vaccinations from local health care providers or have plans to do so soon. Employees of the countyâs largest school districtsâJanesville and Beloitâare poised to receive vaccines late this week and early next week from Mercyhealth and Beloit Health System respectively, hospital representatives said. Edgerton and Parkview school districts began receiving vaccines Wednesday, district officials said. Parkview District Administrator Steve Lutzke said about 120 staff members were vaccinated by Mercyhealth system. Edgerton Superintendent Dennis Pauli said all staff who want to be vaccinated received doses Wednesday. He did not respond to The Gazetteâs questions regarding which health system the school district worked with. ....
January 20, 2021 The Beloit School Board narrows down its list of superintendent candidates to three finalists. In a closed session discussion Tuesday night, the board decided on Dana Arreola, Lorenzo Russell and current interim superintendent Dan Keyser. Arreola is the Executive Director of Leadership Development for the Aldine Independent School District in Houston, Texas. She previously served as a school support officer and principal in other Houston-area school districts. Russell is an area superintendent and network leader at the Cleveland Metropolitan School District in Ohio. Before that, he spent nine years in Chicago Public Schools as a deputy chief of schools and principal. ....
