KL Archdiocese advises Catholic couples to postpone May, June weddings in view of high Covid-19 cases


PETALING JAYA: Couples have been urged to postpone their weddings at Catholic churches in Kuala Lumpur to help prevent a surge in Covid-19 cases.
“The parish priests/administrators should strongly encourage couples to postpone weddings scheduled for May and June, the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur said in a notice on its website.
“In the event that this is not possible, weddings may proceed with a maximum number of 20 persons (inclusive of minister, couple, witnesses).”
The notice, signed by chancellor Father Michael Chua, stated that baptisms are to be postponed, except in case of an emergency.
“Given the critical nature of the current pandemic and witnessing our health care facilities, resources and personnel pushed to breaking point, His Grace, Archbishop Julian Leow, has decided to extend the temporary suspension of public Masses in all parishes, churches, chapels and Mass centres located within the Archdiocese with effect from Wednesday (May 12) until fu ....

Singapore-born nun left everything for the Lord

Tributes have been pouring in for Sister Valerie Tseng Yeok Ying, a Singapore-born nun from the Infant Jesus Sisters who spent most of her life in community animation, education, social work and Biblical apostolate in Malaysia.
Sister Valerie died on April 12 at the age of 96.
The Church in Malaysia led by Archbishop Julian Leow of Kuala Lumpur joined her family members including her brother, Jesuit priest Father Gerald Tseng, relatives, friends and the Infant Jesus community to mourn her demise. ....

Priests share how they experienced MCO


It was themed Reframing Meaning and Ministry in a Time of Crisis and Change.
During the three days, they shared on three broad aspects of Self (who am I as a person), parish (what I do as a person) and the support of the community and Archdiocese.
On the first day, the members of the clergy, in groups, shared on three questions which were later collated. 
The focus was on personal: What happened to me, and how have I been coping? The dynamics that took place on the first day were:

A second Capuchin priest ordained in Tambunan


TAMBUNAN: Eighteen years ago, Fr Valentine Gompok OFM Cap was the first Capuchin to be ordained from Tambunan. This historic event was repeated when Deacon Gilbert James OFM Cap was ordained as a priest at the Church of St Theresa, Tambunan Feb 27, 2021.
The rite of ordination began after the reading of the Gospel, when Fr Valentine presented the candidate to Bishop Cornelius Piong.
Bishop Piong in his address said that he hoped the newly ordained priest would be attentive to the needs of the Church and the people, and would unite himself with Christ who is the Master, Priest and Shepherd, spread the Word of God everywhere, and be in communion with the Bishops and priests. ....
