The Haunting of Bois Blanc Island Yeah, yeah, we ve heard about the hauntings on Mackinac Island until we re blue in the face. But what about hauntings on a different Michigan island? Just a tad south of Mackinac Island is the tiny Round Island.you know, the one that was featured in the film “Somewhere In Time”. And just a smidgen south of Round Island is Bois Blanc Island, a 34-square mile island that is said to be an above-average haunted location. So who haunts it? Some rumors say it s the spirit of John Dillinger, who once had a cabin on the island he used for a hideout (see photos below). But that doesn t make sense, since he didn t die there. ....
The 1859 Mining Town of Hancock, Keweenaw Peninsula The town of Hancock sits in the Keewenaw Peninsula, Houghton County, in Michigan s Upper Peninsula. In 1847, prospectors discovered crude, ages-old Native American copper mines. Realizing there was probably more copper and a way to make themselves rich, the land was purchased and the Quincy Mining Company was formed on the spot. The town was therefore founded out of necessity. The Keweenaw peninsula was teeming with copper mines, and little communities were needed in order for businesses to set up offices and miners to have a place to live. When it became necessary for a town name, they decided to honor the man who flourished his name across the bottom of the Declaration of Independence, John Hancock. ....
The Impressive 1860 Cemetery of Pentwater, Michigan This is one Michigan cemetery that can be given just about ANY adjective: creepy, beautiful, historic, dark, medieval, gloomy, uplifting, jaw-dropping, meditative, serene, woodsy, eerie...there are just too many words that describe this place. Something out of Middle Earth.Lord of the Rings, maybe? Okay, maybe not, and there are definitely more extreme graveyards throughout the world, but this one, so close to home, is too good to pass up. I was impressed when I set eyes on this place. So...is it haunted? Well, for Pete s sake.what cemetery ISN T? The cemetery s beginnings go back to 1860 when Willie, the son of Jacob Brillhart, passed away. A patch of land was selected to bury not just his son, but others as well. Willie was the first to be buried in the cemetery, which was originally where the 1st Baptist Church currently sits. In 1870, a new, larger cemetery was founded and the bodies were moved by 1879.well ....
The Haunted 1850 Catholic Cemetery, Marquette This historic old graveyard has been around ever since 1850, even though no one has been buried there since approximately 1900. In 1861, this little patch of graveyard land, which sits at the corner of Pioneer Road and Division Street, was donated to Reverend Frederic Baraga with the strict specifications that the land was to ONLY be used for free burial ground and for no other purpose . But the graveyard was filling up with little burial ground left. Then in 1897, along comes the new Holy Cross Cemetery, whose caretakers coaxed the church parishioners to dig up their dead and move em to the new grounds. Some locals were talked into it, while others refused, leaving their deceased family and friends to stay where they were. ....
The Ghost of Baker Road, Montcalm County Here s another Haunted Michigan road for you to check out.this one is on Baker Road, south of Greenville in Eureka Township, Montcalm County. The urban legend says that one night, a teenage girl was walking down the road. The road had many twists, turns, curves, and unseen driveways, so it s definitely hard for a motorist to see someone walking along the road – especially if they re not wearing light clothing. Sure enough, the young girl was unnoticed by a driver, hit, and killed. Since then, people who have driven that road at night claim to have seen a female apparition floating down the road. Not just a ghostly figure, but odd orbs and flickering lights are seen along the roadside. ....
