Examining testimonial production in Southern Cone Latin America (Chile, Argentina, and Uruguay), Haunted Objects analyzes how the changed relationship between the subject and the material world influenced the way survivors narrate the stories of their detentions in the wake of the political violence of the 1970s and 80s. It explores descriptions of objects within testimonial narratives and uses these descriptions to inform an analysis of how the objects that survived the violence items recovered by archeologists from former detention centers, the personal belongings of disappeared peoples, the prison craftwork created by political prisoners during their detention, and the bodies of the second generation children of the disappeared, all join together in memory projects in the post-dictatorship to offer spectral testimony about the past. ....
The world of the paranormal is populated with supposedly cursed objects. Everything from jewelry, to cars, paintings, dolls. even chairs and other furniture, among many others, have been said to be cursed or haunted. You name it, there is probably one of them that has been said to be cursed or haunted at some point or other. One type of cursed object that doesn’t seem to get too talked about is that of those large iron cooking pots called cauldrons, and it is hard to see why not. After all, old-fashioned cauldrons are entrenched within the realm of spooky imagery, with it being nearly impossible to see one without imagining a group of cackling witches gathered around one up to some nefarious work. They seem so perfect for it, and indeed there are most definitely supposed cursed cauldrons out there, ranging from the legendary back in history, to more modern day ones. ....
Standard-Times Just in time for Presidents’ Day, Middleboro Public Library is bringing back paranormal guru Tim Weisberg to present “Presidential Paranormal” at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 10 live on Zoom. Weisberg will examine the supernatural side of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, as well as those who have occupied it including the ones that never left. From séances in the Crimson Room with Mary Todd Lincoln to secret alien exchange programs under Dwight Eisenhower, there s no shortage of weird when it comes to the White House. This program is appropriate for all ages. Weisberg’s appearance is free and open to all, but you must register to get the Zoom link to log on and see the program.
