Tulane University receives award to demonstrate electric shuttle buses for New Orleans region

A Tulane University initiative to use shuttle buses powered by electricity has been awarded $737,500 by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE). The project is one of 55 selected research and demonstration projects that will further new and innovative advanced vehicle technologies with assistance from the EERE’s Vehicle Technologies Office.
Tulane will purchase five Grande West Vicinity transit buses with electric vehicle (EV) technology and install five private charging stations to support them. The shuttle buses will service the regular university shuttle route that links Tulane’s uptown and downtown campuses and affiliate programs. During the three-year project, Tulane staff will collect and analyze data on the operating performance and costs of the EV shuttle buses, with the goal of sharing Tulane’s experience with fleet managers in the New Orleans region and at other universities.  ....

New Bedford, Fall River area theater companies talk year without shows

NEW BEDFORD  The SouthCoast is known for its variety of theatrical options on almost any given weekend. However, COVID-19 has deemed live performances unsafe and has forced all theatre companies to shut down.

Little Theatre of Fall River was in its fifth of nine performances for the musical  Blood Brothers  when they chose to cancel the remaining shows amid safety concerns. The SouthCoast Children’s Theatre was rehearsing “Frozen Jr.,” with a cast of 80 kids, when they were forced to switch over to Zoom. ....

'I'm so psyched to play': Local musicians ready to cautiously rock

Music fans and musicians have been going stir-crazy for a year. I last went to a concert March 6, 2020. And so last week’s announcement by the state that Phase Three, Step Two guidelines seemed to allow for live music performance at indoor venues, at half-capacity, and limited to 500 people or fewer, was greeted with jubilation.
There are some live music shows this weekend, including in Quincy where Pete’s Grille hosts FM Station on Friday night and Joe Fitz and the Dented Cans on Saturday.
“I’m so psyched to play again,” said Quincy’s Joe Fitzgerald, the singer/songwriter who fronts the Saturday night blues-rock band. “I think a lot of people didn’t realize how much they’d miss live music. I have a definite microphone addiction; my wife says if someone buries a microphone in an Iowa cornfield, I’ll go there, dig it up, and start singing.” ....
