Rehoboth Beach voters went to the polls Aug. 14, and in one of the closest races in recent history, Mary A. ‘Toni’ Sharp and Tim Bennett pulled out wins in the city’s 2021 election. Sharp, who served previously on the city’s board of commissioners.
Rehoboth Beach commissioners recently approved code creating a parks and recreation section regulating use of the city’s parks, including the new canal dock at Grove Park. However, not all the rules are set, which means when the dock opens in early May, it won’t be available for commercial use.
It took a decade, but the new dock was completed in January. In anticipation of its opening, city staff introduced the new section of code in February. Commissioners discussed the section over a few meetings, approving it during their April 16 meeting.
Nearly a quarter of funding for the $1.25 million project came in the form of a $300,000 Transportation Alternatives Program grant from the Delaware Department of Transportation.

After owning the property at 84 Kent St. for nearly 100 years, Rehoboth Beach auctioned off the lot April 10 for $1.07 million.
The building has been vacant for years, but it had been the longtime home to the Kiwanis Club and Boy Scout Troop 85. Scout posters were still hanging on auction day.
The city embarked on selling the property three years ago, when its generally vacant status was brought to light at the beginning of the city’s ongoing nativity scene saga. The foam creche figures for the nativity scene were being stored at 84 Kent St. because the Kiwanis Club had been responsible for setting them up at the Bandstand for many years. The agenda for the commissioner meeting this Friday, April 16, calls for a possible settlement agreement in the lawsuit filed by the Knights of Columbus against the city.
