SOMERSET As a former selectmen s resignation and allegations of incivility continue to roil town politics, Somerset leaders say they re confident the conflict will not hamper big projects like the proposed new Somerset Middle School and Brayton Point development. “As much as the politics have been kind of loud and not very positive lately… I think Somerset has a lot going for us and I think we can still get there if we all work together, said Julie Ramos Gagliardi, a Somerset resident and the chair of the Somerset Berkley Regional School Committee. SOMERSET The Missouri redevelopment company that bought the former Brayton Point power station in December 2018 has had big plans since it paid nearly $9 million for the vacant 306-acre site. But more than two years later, what once had been the largest coal-fired power plant in New England and the single largest generator of tax revenue to the town hasn’t come close to realizing its full potential. Steven Collins, executive vice president of redevelopment for Brayton Point LLC, an affiliate of St. Louis-based Commercial Development Company Inc., says the goal from day one has been to utilize some portion of 140 acres of useable real estate as an offshore wind manufacturing, staging and maintenance facility. ....
State committee announces new climate bill Community Content State Sen. Mike Barrett and State Rep. Thomas Golden Jr. announced on Jan. 3 the Conference Committee on Climate has reached an agreement on An Act Creating a Next-Generation Roadmap for Massachusetts Climate Policy (S.2995). Barrett and Golden Jr., the senate and house chairs, respectively, of the committee, also expressed gratitude to the other members of the committee State Sen. Cindy Creem, State Sen. Patrick O’Connor, State Rep. Pat Haddad and State Rep. Brad Jones. The committee also announced their next step is to submit the recommended compromise to the respective chambers for their consideration and approval. ....

The Democrat from Winthrop has been speaker for more than 10 years after being elected to the House of Representatives in 1990.
