(From Supreme Court) May 27, 2021 (UPDATED) Voting 37-0 with zero abstentions among those present virtually, the House of Representatives committee on justice on Thursday, May 27, 2021, dismissed outright the impeachment complaint against Supreme Court Associate Justice Mario Victor Leonen, after determining that it is based on hearsay and is not based on authentic records.
“What we have, in sum, is an ‘unsigned’ impeachment complaint that is provided for in Section 3, third paragraph, due to the failure of the complainant to verify his allegations as true and correct based on his personal knowledge, or authentic records,” committee chairman Leyte 3rd District Vicente S.F. Veloso said.

The Lower House has already disposed of House Bill 8179 when it registered 228 affirmative and zero negative votes to pass the measure on third and final reading.
The Senate version is authored by Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr and is now pending at the Committee on Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change.
Deputy Speaker Rufus Rodriguez, a co-author of Bill No. 8179 or the Sustainable Forest Management Act, said the country urgently needs a clear strategy to conserve and preserve its forests and forest resources.
“Our forested areas have been greatly depleted by commercial and illegal exploitation, conversion, population growth, illegal occupation, and unlawful tree-cutting and wood gathering,” he said.
