Tributes to Newham 'hero' and charity founder Kevin Jenkins

Paula said: He was a great believer that things could be changed. That s what motivated him. If a young person had a barrier there, you can always find a way around it. Kevin was a great believer in that. The beauty about Kevin was he always kept his feet on the ground. He was a people person. He never forgot his roots. He always fought for what he believed in. He loved Newham. He committed his life to it. We re so proud of him. He s going to be missed like mad. David Robinson, who co-founded Community Links, said Mr Jenkins was deeply loved by many people, more than might ever be known.

Thanks a million for your support for the Salvation Army's Christmas Toy Appeal

HUNDREDS of children are going to wake up on Christmas Day with a present thanks to the generosity of everyone in west Wiltshire who responded to the Salvation Army’s annual Christmas Toy Appeal which has been supported by the Wiltshire Times. Around 3,000 toys and other gifts have been donated to the Salvation Army’s Toy Appeal this year. That phenomenal response is double the amount of last year and will help the Salvation Army to give presents to so many more families in need this Christmas. The Salvation Army’s Territorial Envoy and Trowbridge church leader Michala Lancefield said they had received an “amazing response” to this year’s appeal and had been overwhelmed by people’s generosity.

'She had no presents for her children': Local charities delivering Christmas hope to those in need

© Mhairi Edwards “This year we also started a JustGiving page and an Amazon wish list for people who want to donate but don’t want to go to shops.” Local businesses have continued to act as drop-off points for the appeal, which provided help for around 1,200 families in 2019. This figure was already equalled by the beginning of November, with referrals continuing to flood in. Sharon says families that could have been living quite comfortably until the pandemic hit may be in need this Christmas. “Normally a lot of referrals come in through schools and social workers but this year you might have a nice house and car but no money in the bank if you’ve been made redundant.

Success for the Isle of Wight Radio Christmas Toy Appeal

Success for the Isle of Wight Radio Christmas Toy Appeal The Isle of Wight Christmas Toy Appeal this year has received donations to the value of almost £30,000. Over 2,800 toys were given by Islanders to help brighten up Christmas for young carers, children in hospital, children in care, sick youngsters, bereaved children or those challenged by poverty and housing problems. Collection boxes at official supermarket drop off points across the Island were emptied and brought to Isle of Wight Radio in Newport, before being taken to partner agencies to be wrapped. This year, the toy appeal was supported by helpers Karen Eeles and Paddy McHugh. Since it was founded nine years ago by Daniel and Deborah Rooke, all gifts donated have stayed on the Isle of Wight.
