(Courtesy) Print The Association of California School Administrators (ACSA)’s Region 18 greater San Dieguito chapter recently held its Student Standout Awards. All 50 schools in the region celebrate one student that has excelled in the areas of arts, community service, humanities, courage, fellowship and science. Students were celebrated in a virtual presentation led by ASCA Region 18 President Ben Churchill, superintendent of Carlsbad Unified School District, on May 13. Nathan Gordon, a fifth grader at Ashley Falls, posthumously won the Student Standout Award for courage. Nathan passed away in December 2020 after a long and courageous battle with a rare form of cancer. ....
Name for new Pacific Highlands Ranch school to be picked on May 26 The site of the Del Mar Union School District’s new school in Pacific Highlands Ranch. (Karen Billing) Print The Del Mar Union School District is close to naming its new school in Pacific Highlands Ranch. The top three names for the new school were narrowed down to: Pacific Highland (no “s”), Pacific Canyon and Pacific Del Mar. While the name was expected to be finalized last month, due to the meeting stretching late into the evening, the naming decision was continued to the Wednesday, May 26 board meeting. ....

(Courtesy SDUHSD) Print In-person attendance rose after spring break in the San Dieguito Union High School District, when students had the option to return to four days a week of in-person instruction on April 12, according to the latest numbers released by the San Diego County Office of Education. Teachers are instructing students in the classroom as well as those who choose to remain home in distance learning. Canyon Crest Academy had the largest increase with 1,079 students or 44% of the student population now back on campus, up from 21% two weeks prior. ....
Print San Dieguito Union High School students were able to return to school in-person four days a week on April 12. After spending the majority of the school year in distance learning, the district started with just one day back on March 16 and expanded to two days the following week. After spring break, students were able to opt to return to school four days a week in-person or remain in distance learning. With the expanded reopening, students have gradually been returning to school more students have returned in the northern communities of the district than the southern part. According to the latest numbers submitted to the San Diego County Office of Education on April 12 (prior to the four-day-a-week reopening), the most high school students have come back at San Dieguito Academy High School where 44% of the school’s 2,000 students have returned. At La Costa Canyon, 40% have returned and at Canyon Crest Academy, 21% of the school’s 2,466 students are learning in ....
