DAYTONA BEACH The increased push by retailers to provide online shoppers with same- or next-day delivery is creating a need for more distribution centers within a short drive to large numbers of customers. That could transform Volusia County into a major distribution hub in the coming years, predicts commercial real estate broker David Murphy, an executive vice president with CBRE, a commercial real estate services and investment firm in Orlando. They re coming, Murphy told a recent gathering of the Volusia County Association for Responsible Development, also known as VCARD. Noting that Volusia County is at the intersection of Interstate 4 and Interstate 95 within an hour s drive of 2.7 million residents, Murphy forecast that the Daytona Beach area will become like Lakeland within the next few years. The Daytona Beach Public Works Department is seeking input on whether or not the expenditure of $1,167,461 for a project regarding a multi-use trail on Beville Road is in the city s best interest. According to the agenda item, if approved, the project would bring an 8-12 foot wide concrete multi-use trail to the south side of Beville, stretching from Andros Isle Boulevard to Clyde Morris Boulevard. If the city is interested in the project, they will have to enter into a Local Agency Program (LAP) agreement with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) in the amount of $2,560,597—which is the expected total cost of the project.
