Pawhuska schools to benefit from counseling grant

Pawhuska Journal-Capital Assistant Superintendent Beverly Moore said last week that Pawhuska Public Schools will benefit from grant funding that the Oklahoma State Department of Education has awarded based on an application by the Osage County Interlocal Cooperative, headquartered in Hominy. Pawhuska Public Schools is to be one of six area public school districts that will be able to increase the availability of counseling services for its students because of the $522,000 Oklahoma School Counselor Corps grant. Overall, the state is awarding $35.7 million in grants, financed with federal government relief money, to benefit 181 school districts. The six schools or school districts receiving counseling grant funds through the Osage County Interlocal Cooperative will be Pawhuska, Wynona, Shidler, Osage Hills, South Coffeyville and Anderson.

Tributes paid to toe-tapping Darlington dance teacher who died aged 72

A DANCE teacher who lit up the lives of the many she taught and shared her love of line-dance is being remembered for her sense of fun and kindness. Mary Latcham, who died on February 19 aged 72, was the teacher behind Darlington’s Texas Toe Tappers, a line-dancing troupe which took part in large-scale dance events in the town centre and on stage. Her daughter Suzanne Latcham paid tribute to her mother. She said: “My mum was married to my dad Barry for just short of 52 years – March 1 would have been their 52nd wedding anniversary. “She had two daughters, Karen and Suzanne, and two grandsons: Dominic, 18 and Oliver, 15.

LAFIRNE N. TASSELLI Lafirne “Fern” N. Tasselli, 95, of Lock Haven passed away on Jan. 25, 2021 at Haven Place, Lock Haven after an extended illness. Born Jan. 7, 1926, she was the oldest daughter of the late Maurice and Minnie (Bowersox) Orndorf. Fern was a graduate of Lock Haven High School where during her senior year she participated in a war-related work release program at Piper Aircraft. After graduation, she attended the Beebe Hospital School of Nursing in Lewis, Delaware as a Cadet Nurse. On Oct. 5, 1946 she married her loving and devoted husband, Vito J. Tasselli, upon his safe return from World War II.
