Staff Writer ELKINS A new era will begin this fall for Elkins High School’s football program, as the school’s football facility will no longer be historic Wimer Stadium. The Randolph County Board of Education voted Tuesday evening to approve a resolution enabling the county school system to enter into a lease purchase agreement with Citizens Bank of West Virginia. According to documentation provided by county officials, the loan will provide funding for new bleachers to be built for EHS athletic programs, including football, baseball and band. As part of the bleacher project, county officials will be relocating the home of EHS football from Wimer Stadium to Elkins High School’s current location at Kennedy Drive off the Beverly Pike Five-lane. ....
[email protected] ELKINS Drivers may have been alarmed Friday afternoon when they encountered half a dozen police vehicles with their blue lights flashing parked alongside and in the median of the Beverly Pike Five-lane. Happily, no one was harmed during the emergency situation in fact, it wasn’t even a real emergency. Law enforcement officers were merely helping out during the conducting of an emergency drill at Elkins Rehabilitation & Care Center. “We are just working to keep our already sharp emergency preparedness skills honed to a keen edge,” the ERCC posted on its Facebook page at 11 a.m. Friday. ....
ELKINS On Friday, Davis Medical Center’s Alternative Drive-Thru Screening Unit (ASU) will be closing. Originally the ASU was designed for COVID-19 testing and other screenings such as flu, strep throat, and RSV to reduce the amount of exposure in Davis Medical Center’s indoor clinics. “The ASU has been an excellent source of medical services during the course of the pandemic, but with a significant reduction in COVID-19 cases, we are encouraging individuals to return to their primary care doctor for routine visits, or seek medical care at DirectCare of Elkins for non-emergent sick visits,” said Chief Medical Officer Dr. Catherine Chua, DO, FAAFP, FMNM, CPE. ....
