(Photo by Tyler Bennett) BELPRE The Belpre City Schools Board of Education unanimously approved a new calendar for the 2021-2022 school year and new science curriculum for students during a board meeting on Monday evening. The calendar will look similar to the calendar that the district is using for the current year, by starting the new year around the middle of August, Aug. 23 (Monday), and will end before Memorial Day (May. 24) with high school graduation on Sunday, May 22, 2022. The calendar will also have a full Christmas and spring break, as well as a three-day break for Thanksgiving. ....

(Photo by Tyler Bennett) BELPRE The Belpre City Schools Board of Education approved summer school dates and listened to presentations during its monthly meeting on Monday evening. School Psychologist Assistant Michael Seebaugh gave a presentation about a new partnership with the Character Lab Research Network to help students with critical thinking which Belpre stakeholders identified as the highest priority in addition to empathy and communication, which Seebaugh said are hard skills to quantify. The Character Lab is an association of schools and scientists working together to advance scientific insight that helps kids thrive while providing some evidence-based research, well thought out surveys and data to help the district quantity those needs, said Seebaugh. ....
With the upcoming year, some local school districts are welcoming officials to new positions.. Marietta City Schools has a change in its board members as Russ Garrison is the new president with Doug Mallet serving as the vice president alongside board members Stacey Hall, Mark Duckworth and Bill Hutchinson. A few committee changes took place as well. Hall serves on the business advisory council, IT and curriculum committees; Hutchinson is the chair of the finance, buildings and grounds committees; Duckworth also works with the buildings and grounds committee along with the athletic council and city recreation board. Garrison will serve on the records, security and curriculum committees. ....

(Photo by Tyler Bennett) BELPRE Holding the last meeting of the calendar year, the Belpre City Schools Board of Education received a broadband internet update from district Technology Coordinator Matt Morris on Monday evening at the Stone Administration Building/Early Learning Center. During his presentation, Morris announced that Belpre City Schools will be using Motorola NITRO, a wireless broadband network from Motorola Solutions, and it will allow the district to extend the school’s network beyond its traditional methods to those unable to provide internet service or who live in unreliable service areas. ....
