New CAUV program office to be established in St. Clairsville | News, Sports, Jobs

ST. CLAIRSVILLE Qualified landowners in Belmont County enjoy a reduction in real estate taxes thanks to the Current Agricultural Use Valuation (CAUV) program.
CAUV was established after the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation campaigned to have farmland taxed for its agricultural value, rather than its market value.
Belmont County Auditor Cindi Henry is committed to making the CAUV program more accessible to eligible landowners.
“We are rearranging the auditor’s office to facilitate space for the CAUV program,” Henry said. Informational brochures and CAUV enrollment forms will be available there.
“Larry Craig, deputy auditor and CAUV coordinator, will also be available to administer and answer questions about the program for eligible farmers and landowners,” she said. ....

7 Inn motel coming down in Bellaire | News, Sports, Jobs

BELLAIRE A roadside relic is being razed in the village of Bellaire.
The former 7 Inn, located in the 1600 block of Belmont Street, is being demolished after many years of sitting empty and neglected.
Dick Flanagan, chief of the Bellaire Police Department and village codes enforcer, said he was set to speak with the property owner on Monday about the former motel.
“I’m meeting with the owner this afternoon. It’s going to be razed all at the owner’s expense,” he said.
Since taking over the codes enforcement duties in 2017, Flanagan has worked to get ruined properties either razed or repaired in the village. Dozens of dilapidated houses have been razed, mostly by the owners themselves since Flanagan took over the position. ....
