Offaly man s film hailed as inspirational in Covid times Reporter: ); An Offaly man s new film combining dance, music and storytelling has been hailed as inspiring by early viewers. Originally from Offaly, but now living in Belfast, ‘Turnabout’ filmmaker Nicky Larkin is all about telling stories, whether that s through documentary, drama or comedy. He says that working with Maiden Voyage Dance has been a whole new opportunity for him to tell a story in a very different way than he’s used to, which was really exciting. Turnabout is a new dance and music performance commissioned by choreographer Jennifer Rooney and composer Elaine Agnew. ....

Theatre companies including Cahoots NI have described how they’ve responded with creativity and business savvy to generate revenue during lockdowns. But the amount does not nearly match the losses from festival fees and box office income, industry insiders said. Around 90% of companies operating this time last year have moved to digital platforms and many are generating at least some income as well as developing new audiences, both locally and globally. Cahoots NI, an independent company that produces theatre for young people, has attracted 5,000 viewers to its interactive shows, including its University of Wonder and Imagination. But it has generated just 10% of its estimated £0.5m in lost revenue from cancelled shows and festivals over the last year. ....
Elaine Agnew (53) originally from Kilwaughter in Co Antrim, has created the music for Turnabout, a new family friendly show exploring children s thoughts on hope, as part of this year s Belfast Children s Festival. She writes music and facilitates creative music workshops in education and healthcare settings, encouraging people to be creative through music. Her partner is Andrew Kemp (51) whose daughter Eirinn (21) is in her final year at Strathclyde University studying Prosthetics and Orthotics Q: Do you take regular exercise and if so, what? A: I try very hard to take regular exercise but looming deadlines and horrible weather sometimes puts a stop to that. This month Andrew and I have been doing yoga every night for at least 30 minutes. At the weekend we ll get out for a decent walk up round the Giants Ring or the Lagan Towpath which is close to where we live. I hope to get back out on my bike soon - I love the idea of running but it doesn t come naturally! ....
