Fannin Vaccine Call Center operations may be extended


BONHAM — Texoma Medical Center in Bonham has administered 10,000 first doses of the Covid-19 vaccines it’s receiving from the state, a milestone that was reached even as February’s winter storm delayed some vaccination clinics.
About 25% to 30% of those first dose recipients are now ready for their second dose of vaccine, Troy Hudson, the county’s Emergency Management coordinator, told commissioners Tuesday.
The numbers from TMC do not include vaccine recipients at other shot providers, such as Puckett Family Clinic in Honey Grove or Brookshire’s in Bonham, Hudson said.
Those registered with the county’s Vaccine Call Center could be called by other providers in the county as the Johnson & Johnson vaccine joins those made by Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech, County Judge Randy Moore said. Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine requires just one doses while Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech each require two. ....

OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence has announced the recipients of its prestigious 2021 Academic All-State Awards. These 100 top public high school seniors, selected from 379 nominations, hail from 77 schools in 69 school districts.
The 2021 Academic All-State class is the 35th to be selected by the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence.
Each of this year’s All-Staters will receive a $1,000 merit-based scholarship and a medallion. The All-Staters will be recognized at the foundation’s 35th annual Academic Awards Celebration on May 22 at the Cox Business Center in Tulsa.
Students must meet one of the following criteria: an American College Test composite score of at least 30; a combined SAT evidence-based reading & writing and math score of at least 1370; or be selected as a semi-finalist for a National Merit, National Achievement or National Hispanic Scholarship. Nye Legacy receives Silver Award for excellence in skilled nursing

For the second time, Nye Legacy has been recognized for its work by the National Center for Assisted Living’s National Quality Award Program.
The skilled nursing facility was one of seven in the state to receive the Silver Award last November from NCAL, which is the assisted living voice of the American Health Care Association.
