Clog Report: Student struggles to cut bagel, almost leaves med school

Just minutes ago, Perry Carter, a student in the UC Berkeley-UCSF Joint Medical Program, reportedly considered dropping out of medical school while struggling to cut open a bagel.
Carter, who is currently studying to become a cardiothoracic surgeon, genuinely contemplated giving up on being a doctor after his complete and abject failure to bisect a sesame bagel this morning.
“You know what, maybe I’m not cut out for this surgery thing after all,” Carter, who graduated with honors and is among the top 10% of his class, said.
“I’ve been deeply interested in understanding the functions of the human body and using the knowledge to save lives directly,” Carter said with the mangled remains of his breakfast in his hands. “But as soon as my knife touched that bagel, I knew that I was never meant to be a surgeon.” ....

On a March afternoon on the Los Angeles River, two anglers waded in the concrete channel of the Glendale Narrows, casting their lines for carp and largemouth bass. Above them, a belted kingfisher perched on a mattress that had been caught in the crook of a budding cottonwood during a recent storm surge. Some recreationists enjoy catch-and-release on the river, but others low-income and unhoused people who need sustenance were hoping to leave with coolers, buckets or even shopping carts full of freshly caught fish. ....

Three-Timing Texas Police Chief Jason Collier Arrested by Texas Rangers

The story goes that Collier is married to a woman named Opal, with whom he raised his two children and two step-children. In November, he proposed to his girlfriend, Cecily Steinmetz from Amarillo. And, one month later, he proposed to a Kansas woman named Kristi Shaffer, according to statements from the women made on social media and to local reporters.
The women believed they each were in a monogamous relationship until his love quadrangle was found out, of course, on Facebook.
Collier ran the Stinnett Police Department’s Facebook page (which now appears to be shut down); one of his fiancées, Shaffer, left some comments on the page. One of Steinmetz’s friends saw Shaffer’s comments and noticed Collier in her profile picture. She creeped Shaffer’s profile and discovered Shaffer was also engaged to her friend’s fiancé. ....
