For years, she has been training upcoming generations of nurses and healthcare workers, many of whom will go on to work in local hospitals and offices that treat this community’s citizens. “I teach my students that it s not all about academics,” she said. “You ve got to be a well-rounded student.” Cheryl, who is from Canada, had a life-changing experience that prompted her to go into nursing. Craven County is setting up clinics in out-of-the-way places so the underserved community can get their vaccine stick. Consider it a shot in the arm for those who are having a harder time getting into the city for their shot in the arm. Several clinics in outlying areas of the county have been set in Harlowe and Cove City, while Vanceboro could see a clinic of its own. The Harlowe one runs 1:30 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the community center on Godette School Road, but it’s too late to sign up: Health Director Scott Harrelson said that 80-to-90 seniors will get their vaccines over the course of the day. ....
Sun Journal staff On Saturday, March 6, 2021, CarolinaEast Health System will be hosting a multi-site COVID-19 community vaccination event in Craven County. The vaccinations will take place at three locations, including CarolinaEast Internal Medicine in Vanceboro (620 Farmlife Ave., Vanceboro), CarolinaEast Internal Medicine in Havelock (532 Webb Blvd., Havelock) and the New Bern Riverfront Convention Center (203 S. Front St., New Bern). Vaccinations will by appointment only and will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. “We are pleased to have the ability to offer the vaccine to more in our community,” said Brandy Popp, public relations and community outreach manager at CarolinaEast, in a news release. “Vaccine allotment has increased in recent weeks, with a special allotment received specifically for a mass vaccination event.
