CHARLESTON A committee in the House of Delegates charged with improving West Virginia’s broadband infrastructure is seeking documents from Frontier Communications on its progress.
The House Technology and Infrastructure Committee voted Wednesday to submit a formal request for information and documents to Frontier. The committee also issued an invitation for representatives of Frontier to attend a committee meeting scheduled for March 10.
The committee is seeking documents related to Frontier’s maintenance, compliance, and performance; and its progress on the Federal Communications Commission’s Connect America Fund Phase II broadband expansion projects. Frontier had accepted FCC Connect America Fund dollars in 2015 to expand broadband to 89,190 locations in West Virginia by the end of 2020. ....

HARTFORD, Conn. Connecticut state regulators have approved a bankruptcy reorganization plan for Frontier Communications that requires the company to make technological improvements and maintain its current number of technicians and customer service representatives.
Under the plan approved this week by the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority, Frontier will form a new holding company as part of a restructuring plan to eliminate more than $10 billion in debt obligations and $1 billion in annual interest payments. ....

CHARLESTON The West Virginia Economic Development Authority voted Tuesday to award the first loan insurance requests for four state internet providers who received winning bids in last Fall’s rural broadband auction, while a lawmaker continues to ask about one company’s ability to deliver.
The EDA approved loan insurance requests for Bridgeport-based Citynet for a loan up to $16 million from MVB Bank; Preston County-based Digital Connections/PRODIGI for a loan up to $2.6 million from Clear Mountain Bank; Bluefield, Va.-based GigaBeam for a loan up to $8.4 million from Citizens Bank of West Virginia; and a transfer of a loan up to $3 million for Buckhannon-based Micrologic from Citizens Bank of Weston to Citizens Bank of West Virginia. ....
